VibeMaps was founded by a group of New York City residents who wanted to label the city by its unique sights, smells, and sounds - observations that are difficult to research online and are only presentable when you are physically present on the ground. For instance, an online street view doesn't reveal how many cars are honking on your block, or whether drunken students spill out of your neighborhood bar at 2AM.
In a tight residential market like New York City, choosing where to live can be complicated if you do not find agents or colleagues who are truly knowledgeable about the neighborhood you want to live in. We hope that VibeMaps helps you get once step closer to understanding New York City without having to step foot on every street corner.
The team acknowledges that some of these observations are exaggerations based on time of day, but these are more to demonstrate what possible extreme you will face in a particular corner.
We rely on human contributors for the project, so if you would like to help cover more neighborhoods and blocks, or would like more information on the project, please send a message through our Twitter feed.
